What is a commercial interceptor and do I need one?
A commercial interceptor is a pre-treatment device installed on your drain lines to remove grease, oil, sediment, lint, hair, or chemical waste before it enters the municipal sewer. Most commercial facilities in Ontario are required by plumbing code or municipal bylaw to have the appropriate interceptor for their type of operation.

How much does interceptor installation cost?
Costs vary significantly by interceptor type, size, and site conditions. A small hair interceptor for a salon may be $500–$2,000, while a large gravity grease interceptor or oil-sand system for a restaurant or car wash can range from $10,000–$40,000+. What's the difference between a grease trap and a grease interceptor?
The terms are often used interchangeably, but technically a grease trap refers to smaller hydromechanical units (under 50 GPM) typically installed under-sink or in-floor, while grease interceptor usually refers to larger gravity units (50 GPM+) installed outdoors underground. We install and service both types.

How do you size the right interceptor for my facility?
We calculate your actual peak flow rate (GPM), type and volume of waste stream, number and type of fixtures, and review your municipality's specific sizing requirements. Proper sizing is critical — an undersized unit fails compliance and an oversized unit wastes money.

Do I need a permit for interceptor installation?
Yes — virtually all commercial interceptor installations in Ontario require a plumbing permit, and many municipalities have additional FOG or stormwater permit requirements. We handle all permit applications and inspector coordination as part of every project.

How often does a commercial interceptor need to be cleaned?
Frequency depends on the interceptor type and usage. Grease traps in busy restaurants are often pumped monthly; oil interceptors in auto shops may be serviced quarterly or semi-annually; lint interceptors may need monthly cleaning. We offer scheduled maintenance programs tailored to your facility.

What happens if I don't have a required interceptor?
Operating without a required interceptor can result in fines from your municipality, failed health or building inspections, forced shutdown of your business, and costly damage to the municipal sewer system. If you've received a compliance notice, call us immediately — we can typically have you compliant within days.
